Mazatlán

Known as the Pearl of the Pacific because of its beautiful beaches and its abundant marine life, it has become an important site for international fishing tournaments such as the Bisbee’s Billfish Classic.

Mazatlán is one of the most important ports on the Pacific coast. It is located in the southern part of the state of Sinaloa, 212 km southeast from the state capital, Culiacán. It has warm weather with annual averages above 26°, but in the summer, given the humidity factor, the weather feels a lot warmer.

Known as the “Pacific Pearl” because of the beauty of its beaches and the wealth of its marine biodiversity, it hosts important fishing tournaments as the Bisbee's Billfish Classic. This destination combines the traditional colonial architecture of its historic downtown –known as “Old Mazatlán”- with modern hotels and restaurants in its spectacular “Zona Dorada” (Golden Zone). In Old Mazatlán you can admire the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and can walk through its beautiful streets, full of colonial buildings from the 20th century. The Zona Dorada has 10 km of beaches, including:  Playa Norte, Playa Gaviotas and Playa Venados, perfect for surfing, scuba diving and recreational fishing. For nature lovers there are several places with abundant vegetation, like “Cerro del Crestón”, a hill where you can go trekking, and climbing, and practice ecotourism. On the hilltop you will find the second natural lighthouse in the world, just after Gibraltar. Mazatlán also has great golf courses with magnificent ocean views and two marinas that can dock all types of vessels.

Among the various cultural and sporting events that take place at Mazatlán we have to mention the "Jesús Arnoldo Millán" International Golf Tournament, the “Gran Torneo Internacional de Tenis” (Great International Tennis Tournament), the Mazatlán Cultural Festival and the Sinaloa Arts Festival; also the "Carnaval de Mazatlán" (Mazatlán Carnival), one of the most famous carnivals in the world, which takes place at the end of February and which allows you to dance – following the “tambora” music- through the streets of Mazatlán while you admire the different floats that parade in plazas and large avenues until daybreak.
